## **Reverse GeoCoding:**

The process of converting latitude and longitude into human readable address is called **Reverse GeoCoding**. 

If you are developing an iOS app in which app allows its user to select the location on map. Then surely you will need to convert the selected latitude and longitude into human readable address by using reverse geocoding, in order to show what address does user has selected. The code for reverse geocoding is pretty straight forward.

In case if you want to use Google's `GMSGeocoder` then most probably you will run into a situation where you want to entertain the last request only. Didn't understand what I mean? Lets consider the following scenario:

- Your app allows its user to drag the map view in order to change the camera focus. 
- This process can't be blocking for better user experience. 
- User drag to change the camera focus.
- When focus did change your app send the reverse geocoding request.
- Before the request could complete, user change the camera focus again.
- Your app send the new reverse geocoding request.

As the requests are asynchronous, this means there is no guarantee which request will be completed first. So, in this particular case you need to cancel the outstanding reverse geocoding requests before making new requests. But guess what? there is no cancel method for `GMSGeocoder`.

Luckily this can be solved by adding 1 simple logic, [found here](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33692599/how-can-i-cancel-an-ongoing-request-in-gmsplacesclient-autocompletequery). We can modify our reverse geocoding helper function to entertain the last request only and ignore all outstanding stale requests. Here is the code.

GMSGeocoder cancel ongoing request workaround

A few days back, I have a small get-together with my colleagues at [**JuicyChuck**](https://www.juicychuck.com/). The restaurant is located at [Noor Jahan Road Gulberg 3 Lahore](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Juicy+Chuck+Gulberg/@31.5091927,74.3436382,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x391905abfab438a7:0x13dff1265f1e4238!8m2!3d31.5075536!4d74.3471936). We tried their DareDevil Beef Burger, priced at **PKR 750**. A triple patty beef burger is more than enough for a single person which is served with french fries. I loved every bite of the burger, creamy, juicy, and delicious. There was a special veggie sauce which was a unique little bit spicy and tasty as well. 

&nbsp;

The staff was professional and friendly. They provide much respect to their customers, answer all customer queries humbly and give logical advice. Apart from the served food, the ambiance was awesome. As we choose to dine in outdoor in the winter season and they provide us an electric heater too. They also accept payment through card. In short:

- Service 10/10
- Ambiance 10/10

I travel frequently from Karachi to Lahore and vice versa. I always prefer the train over the bus for long routes. Karachi and Lahore have distance of more than 1000KMs. I personally prefer train for long routes mainly because I can move and lie down freely in train. At night, while traveling most of the distance is covered while sleeping. In this article, I will share some of the pros and cons of [**traveling**](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Travelling?src=hashtag_click) with [**Pakistan Railways**](https://www.pakrail.gov.pk/) based on my experience over the past years.

&nbsp;

## PROS
- Train coach is much bigger and spacious than any vehicle on the road. You can move freely.
- Train coach is equipped with a spacious berth where you can sit and sleep freely.
- Train coach has a toilet facility at both ends.
- While traveling by train you will see some of the beautiful landscapes around the country.
- You can carry a lot more luggage than any other available modes of transportation like Buses, Airplanes. Moreover, If you are shifting from one city to another you can take all your luggage along with you with minor charges.
- Thanks to the Pakistan Railway's [**mobile app**](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pk.gov.railways&hl=en&gl=US) and [**web app**](https://www.pakrail.gov.pk/Membership/Member_Login.aspx), you can book your tickets online from the comfort of your home.
- Pakistan Railways tickets are a lot cheaper than any other mode of transportation in the country.
- Pakistan Railways Police provide security to the passengers throughout the journey.

&nbsp;

## CONS
- A confession, trains of [**Pakistan Railways**](https://twitter.com/PakrailPK) never arrive timely on the destination even if it is departed timely. I heard people saying if its late an hour or 2 then it is considered to be on time 🙁
- Toilet facility is not neat and clean on some of the trains. This problem is mostly faced by the economy class passengers.
- The condition of the track is worst at some of the points. Mainly in the interior Sindh.
- If you travel in the economy class you will surely get tired of the noise.
- You have to be attentive throughout your journey otherwise you might lose your belongings.
- If you want to file a complaint, you will find yourself lost. Mainly because the process is nontrivial. Even if you get involved in the process you might say let it go.

&nbsp;

## TIPS:
- Try to use the mobile account for payment like [**Easy Paisa**](https://easypaisa.com.pk/) and [**Jazz cash**](https://www.jazzcash.com.pk/) instead of payment through a card. If you pay with a mobile account then in case of cancellation you will get the refund amount in a day or 2. In the other case, you have to wait for almost 20 days. I have personally experienced this situation. 

- If you are looking for the lower class AC then try to book the berths by skipping the first cabin from both ends. Do you want to know why? Don't take my advice just experience it 🤣

Pros and Cons of travelling by Pakistan Railways

Thokar Niaz Baig is considered to be the entry and exit point for Lahore city. Recently I traveled from Lahore to Sahiwal using the [Daewoo bus service](https://www.daewoo.com.pk/). The experience was really good. The bus was neat and clean. Apart from it, the bus reached timely on the destination. It took almost 3 hours to travel from Lahore to Sahiwal. Unfortunately, I was not able to click any pictures of the beautiful, clean, and green city Sahiwal. Here are the random clicks from the Daewoo terminal.

[**Cocoapods**](https://cocoapods.org/) is a popular dependency manager among iOS developers. iOS developers often use Cocoapods for integrating third party libraries. It provides [**different hooks**](https://guides.cocoapods.org/syntax/podfile.html#group_hooks) to perform certain custom actions. For example, [**post install**](https://guides.cocoapods.org/syntax/podfile.html#post_install) hook will be invoked every time dependencies are resolved. Cocoapods is built with [**Ruby**](https://www.ruby-lang.org/) which is compatible with the preinstalled version of Ruby in Mac. In this article we are going to explore how can we write a custom script for automating certain actions. As Cocoapods is built with Ruby, we can use the [Ruby language](https://www.ruby-lang.org/) syntax and features to write custom scripts. 

## Real scenario:

Let say, you are using a newer version of Xcode i.e. 12 or later and you have some old dependencies to resolve and the author of the library did not update the minimum deployment target in the podspec file then you may experience the following error after running ```pod install```. If you are developing an app for react native then most likely you will experience this issue.

&nbsp;

> The iOS Simulator deployment target ‘IPHONEOS_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET’ is set to 8.0, but the range of supported deployment target versions is 9.0 to 14.4.99. (in target ‘CocoaLibEvent’ from project ‘Pods’)

&nbsp;

One way around is to go to each target's settings and update its deployment target manually. This way will become cumbersome if you have a large number of dependencies. Moreover, this way will become painful if you run ```pod install``` more often.

## Custom Script In Action:

A better way is to use post install hook for Cocoapods to update the target’s minimum deployment target. Whenever you run the pod install Cocoapod’s post installation hook will be invoked after resolving dependencies and here it provides the opportunity to perform custom actions using a custom script. The syntax for post installation hook is:

&nbsp;

```
post_install do |installer|
	#custom script for execution
end
```

&nbsp;

You need to put the above block inside the target's block. 

&nbsp;

Then we need to iterate all dependencies which can be done as follows:

&nbsp;

```
installer.pods_project.targets.each do |target|
	#block for iterating each target
end
```

&nbsp;

Next, we need to read the configuration settings for each target, inside the target iterator block above.

&nbsp;

```
target.build_configurations.each do |config|
	#here configuration settings of the target
end
```

&nbsp;

Next, we will read the deployment target and save it in a variable to use in the next step.

&nbsp;

```
deployment_target = config.build_settings['IPHONEOS_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET']
```

&nbsp;

The deployment target is a string so need to convert it into an integer for comparision. So in the next step, we will convert string into an array of characters. Before moving forward, we will add a condition for safety to make sure that the converted array has atleast 1 element to prevent the script from crashing. Then we will convert the first element into integer and compare in order to make sure that it should be greater than 9.
